The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested former Secretary of the Punjab Assembly, Muhammad Khan Bhatti. Muhammad Khan Bhatti is accused of receiving more than one billion rupees as kickbacks, and he will be presented in NAB courts. It should be noted that a few days ago, the Islamabad Police also arrested former Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi, and the legality of his arrest has raised questions on the rule of law. According to private TV reports, the Pakistan Bar Council has issued a statement stating that the mistreatment of Chaudhry Pervez Elahi by the police is condemnable, and questions are being raised about the rule of law after this incident.
(Awaiting further updates) In a joint statement issued by the Vice Chairman of the Bar Council and the Chairman of the Executive Committee, it has been said that Pervez Elahi was arrested in violation of the Lahore High Court's orders because the courts had clearly instructed not to arrest him in any case. On the other hand, the President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, has approached the Islamabad High Court against his arrest and has also requested his release in the application.
Through lawyer Sardar Abdul Razzaq Khan, it has been stated in the application that Pervez Elahi was first arrested on June 1 on false corruption charges as a result of political revenge. The magistrate acquitted Pervez Elahi of corruption charges, after which he was arrested again on fabricated cases based on political grounds instead of being released.
