Petition filed in the LHC against Electoral Reforms Bill 2017

LAHORE  – A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the Electoral Reforms Law 2017.

The petition was filed by Ishtiaq Chaudhry.

The petition contended that according to new law a disqualified person would be the party chief which is against the basic structure of the constitution.

The petition prayed the court to declare the law null and void.

Earlier on Monday, the National Assembly approved the Electoral Reforms Bill 2017 amid uproar by the opposition. Law Minister Zahid Hamid presented the bill, which was approved.

The opposition members stood on their seats, tore the copies of the bill and besieged the speaker’s dais in protest.

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah said that the parliament is the solution to each problem, but the government always goes out of it.

PTI vice-chairman said that the amendment is in clash with the Constitution.
