PESHAWAR: (APP) Dr. Syed Muhammad Junaid Zaidi, Rector COMSATS Institute of Information Technology has said that COMSATS is now currently ranked No 1, University in the country out of 180 universities of and had set target to enter in the club of top 500 Universities of the world as currently none of Pakistani University is among top ranked universities of the world.
This he said while addressing as chief guest at the 92nd and 93rd Convocation of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, at Abbottabad on Monday. A total of 798 students were awarded degrees and medals in the two sessions of the convocation.
Rector said that last year 1200 research papers were published by the students of COMSATS of all the seven campuses and now this year target of 1600 has been fixed where research papers and theses will be published in the renowned journals published from different parts of the world.
While giving word of advice to faculty members and students, Dr.Junaid Zaidi said that this high time for the youths and academia to utilize their efforts to pay back the nation and make the country’s every section of life at par with the developed countries.
He also vowed to provide maximum resources to the academia and students for which he also thanked the ministry of science and Technology, the finance Ministry and donors who are providing financial assistance to COMSATS.
He also asked that parents of the students to not to keep a side the culture of “Sifarash” and let the talented and upcoming students to excel in their respective fields through the rope of “Merit”.
Earlier Director of the Institute Gul Khan Jadoon in his welcome address told that Abbottabad campus which was started in year 2001 with the meager strength of 121 students and 14 staff members had now crossed the limit of 600 with 430 faculty members out of which 200 are Ph.D.
He said a total of 17 undergraduates and 24 graduate programs are being run in the campus and in addition is also working on Adopt a student, Adopt a Family and Adopt a Village under which currently 100 students are being adopted under the banner of “Sweet Home” and their all education and expenses are paid by the Institute. Numbers of local government schools are provided IT Labs and our students make visits of different villages to educate the poor students of different villages.
Jadoon informed that last year 400 publication were made from Abbottabad campus and currently research work on at least 60 papers is underway and with the collaboration of leading universities of the Germany, UK, Norway USA and other countries, our students are sharing their expertise with the students and faculty members through video link and other exchange programs.
Miss Muneeba Mir speaking on the behalf of graduating students in thunders of applause has paid rich tributes to the teachers and faculty members who had made them as graduate with Complete Personality and will soon shine in different parts of the country and in disciplines with their polished and artfully created pearls.
Later degrees and medals were awarded among students by the chief guest.
