FAISALABAD: (APP) Agriculture technology plays a major role in getting bumper yield by enhancing crops production by 85%, while seed varieties contribute only 10-15% to acquiring high yield.
This was stated by Director Research Ayub Agricultural Research Institute (AARI) Dr Ghulam Mehboob-e-Subhani while speaking at the Annual Research Program 2016-17 of Agronomy Department, here on Monday.
Dr Subhani said that most of the farmers pay special attention to select quality seeds but they do not care for the use of latest technology in agriculture field. Thus they fail to get good production of their crops.
He said that the agri technology means soil tests, balanced use of fertiliser, proper use of pesticides, on-time watering the crops and providing suitable atmosphere and space for growth of plants.
Sheikh Mukhtar Ahmad, director, Agronomy Department, said that scientists had conducted tests on 64 crops including wheat, sugarcane, oil-seed and vegetables. He said that climate changes had strong effects on crop production, therefore farmers should use latest technologies according to the needs of the crops in their area.
Director Wheat Dr Makhdoom Husssain, Director Oil-Seed-Crops Chaudhry Salahud Din and others also spoke on the occasion.
