Federal Government mulls new names for the ECP members

*ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has tasked senior federal ministers to mull over names for the appointments in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as two members are going to retire after three months, citing sources. *

The premier has given the task to Azam Swati, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and the legal team to deliberate upon the names to recommend them as ECP members.

Two ECP members including Irshad Qaiser from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Altaf Ibrahim from Punjab will retire on July 25 after completing their five-year tenure.

A briefing was also given to PM Imran Khan regarding the retirement of election commission members. The government will decide on two persons who had earlier performed duties as former judges of high court, retired bureaucrats or technocrats.

PM Imran Khan will adopt the constitutional way for the appointment of ECP’s new members. It is expected that the premier will consult the opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif in this regards.
