ISLAMABAD: Three police personnel embraced martyrdom on Wednesday whenterrorists detonated an improvised explosive device targeting a policemobile van in the Panyala area of Dera Ismail Khan district, officialsconfirmed.
The fallen officers have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector GulAlam, Constable Rafiq, and driver Sakhi Jan. Constable Azad Shah, who wasalso travelling in the vehicle, miraculously escaped unhurt. The powerfulblast completely wrecked the police mobile and left a large crater at thesite.
Immediately after the explosion, rescue teams and additional policecontingents rushed to the scene, shifted the bodies and the survivingconstable to District Headquarters Hospital, and secured the area forinvestigation. Forensic teams collected evidence while senior officers,including DSP Panyala and the local SHO, supervised the cordon operation.
The attack is the latest in a rapidly escalating wave of terrorism acrossKhyber Pakhtunkhwa that has specifically targeted law enforcement personnelover the past three days.
Only twenty-four hours earlier, on Tuesday, terrorists martyred fourindividuals, including North Waziristan Assistant Commissioner Shah Wali,in a deadly ambush on Miranshah Road in Bannu district. Two securitypersonnel were also wounded in that assault.
On Monday, a suicide bomber struck another police mobile in Lakki Marwat,killing one officer and injuring five others in an explosion thathighlighted the growing audacity of militant groups operating in the region.
Security analysts have described the consecutive strikes as a clear attemptby banned outfits to challenge state authority and intimidate frontlineforces ahead of possible renewed military operations in the mergeddistricts.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s bombing, butauthorities suspect involvement of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) orits local affiliates, who have intensified attacks since the collapse ofceasefire talks last year.
The provincial government has condemned the incident and vowed to bring theperpetrators to justice, while funeral prayers for the martyred personnelwill be offered in their native areas amid rising public anger over thedeteriorating law and order situation.
