Over the past few years, violence attributed to online hate speech hasincreased worldwide, which is why censorship on widely used tech platformshas become a necessity. Twitter is one of the social media platforms thathas been actively rolling out policies to curb hate speech.
In a recent blog postlink,Twitter Safety has announced that the company is updating its hate speechrules once again. The new policy now includes banning hateful content thattargets race, ethnicity, and nationality.
According to Twitter Safety, any tweets that violate Twitter’s new policywill be removed. Moreover, if the user is a repeat offender, their accountmay be suspended or banned. The platform will regularly monitor all contentusing “proactive detection and automation.”
The blog post reads,
We create our rules to keep people safe on Twitter, and they continuouslyevolve to reflect the realities of the world we operate within. Our primaryfocus is on addressing the risks of offline harm, and research shows thatdehumanizing language increases that risk. While we encourage people toexpress themselves freely on Twitter, abuse, harassment, and hatefulconduct continue to have no place on our service.
