Originally slated to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabadon October 5, the opening ceremony was intended to precede the openingmatch between defending champions England and New Zealand. Surprisingly, ithas been canceled without any clear explanation.
Remarkably, both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and theInternational Cricket Council (ICC) have yet to issue an official statementelucidating the reasons behind the abrupt cancellation. Nevertheless, theCaptains’ Day event, another crucial facet of the tournament’scommencement, is still on the schedule.
In light of this unexpected turn of events, the BCCI is contemplating thepossibility of organizing an alternative function in Ahmedabad prior to thehighly anticipated showdown between arch-rivals India and Pakistan. A majorhighlight of the tournament remains set for October 14 at the Ahmedabadvenue.
