Lahore High Court announced verdict on petition of journalist Hafeezullah Niazi

LAHORE – Lahore High Court announced verdict on petition of journalistHafeezullah Niazi against PEMRA ban.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) suspended a ban placed by the PakistanElectronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on TV analyst HafeezullahKhan Niazi, on Thursday.

Niazi, the brother-in-law of sitting Premier Imran Khan, was banned fromappearing on television channels for 30 days after which the analyst movedthe Lahore High Court.

In his appeal, Niazi contended that the media watchdog had not issued him ashow cause notice and he was not summoned by the Council of Complaints andthus had been ‘condemned unheard’ in violation of Article 10(a) of theConstitution which gives every citizen the right to fair trial.

The journalist had termed the ban as “illegal, unjustified hence liable tobe struck down”, urging the court to suspend Pemra’s order until theissuance of a verdict on the petition.
