A specialized investigative unit has been established within theAnti-Terrorism Department of Islamabad Capital Police, tasked with delvinginto cases linked to the financing of terrorism and extremism, as reportedby ARY News. This significant development has emerged under the specificdirectives of Federal Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti, who has prompted theIslamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO), Dr. Akbar Naseer Khan, totake the lead in forming this dedicated cell.
According to a police spokesperson, the individual entrusted withoverseeing this cell will hold the rank of Grade 17, functioning under thedirect supervision of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) from theCounter-Terrorism Department (CTD). Emphasizing its commitment to adherenceto international standards, the ICCPO has indicated that this cell willactively seek collaboration with other law enforcement agencies whenconducting specialized investigations.
Moreover, it has been underscored by the ICCPO that stringent legalmeasures will be applied against those individuals found to be involved inthe financing of terrorism and extremism. This proactive stance reflectsthe authorities’ determination to curb the flow of funds to extremistelements within society.
Prior to this initiative, ICCPO Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan had pioneered theestablishment of an anti-terrorism and extremism unit within the CTD—apioneering effort in Pakistan. This unit primarily focuses on counteringextremism within educational institutions and schools in Islamabad, withdedicated teams from the Capital Police actively engaged in these efforts.
