The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested former Secretary ofthe Punjab Assembly, Muhammad Khan Bhatti. Muhammad Khan Bhatti is accusedof receiving more than one billion rupees as kickbacks, and he will bepresented in NAB courts. It should be noted that a few days ago, theIslamabad Police also arrested former Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi,and the legality of his arrest has raised questions on the rule of law.According to private TV reports, the Pakistan Bar Council has issued astatement stating that the mistreatment of Chaudhry Pervez Elahi by thepolice is condemnable, and questions are being raised about the rule of lawafter this incident.
(Awaiting further updates) In a joint statement issued by the ViceChairman of the Bar Council and the Chairman of the Executive Committee, ithas been said that Pervez Elahi was arrested in violation of the LahoreHigh Court’s orders because the courts had clearly instructed not to arresthim in any case. On the other hand, the President of the PakistanTehreek-e-Insaf, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, has approached the Islamabad HighCourt against his arrest and has also requested his release in theapplication.
Through lawyer Sardar Abdul Razzaq Khan, it has been stated in theapplication that Pervez Elahi was first arrested on June 1 on falsecorruption charges as a result of political revenge. The magistrateacquitted Pervez Elahi of corruption charges, after which he was arrestedagain on fabricated cases based on political grounds instead of beingreleased.
