An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Saturday refused bail requests fromformer information minister Fawad Chaudhry and ex-foreign minister andPakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
“After hearing both parties,” the judge denied Fawad’s interim bail due tonon-appearance. In cases related to the May 9 violence, Judge Abhar Gulalso revoked Qureshi and Fawad’s bail while citing non-compliance as thereason. These leaders had their bail applications dismissed under cases366/23 and 367/23 registered at the Model Town police station.
On Friday, the ATC had rejected Qureshi’s application for interim bail andexemption from court appearance in two cases registered against him at theKahna police station. Qureshi’s counsel, Ali Bukhari, had filed separatepleas requesting a day’s exemption from court attendance, citing hisclient’s current incarceration in the cypher case.
During the hearing, the prosecutor urged the court to reject Qureshi’sbail plea, while Bukhari argued that his client was “not intentionallyabsent but had been sent to jail on court orders.” Bukhari emphasized theneed for an attendance exemption based on the complete circumstances.
