PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government free treatment model for the poorcancer patient has become one of the most successful programme in the Worldand is likely being replicated in the developing World, it has beenrevealed.
KP health department’s project to provide free treatment to poor cancerpatients in partnership with private organisations has been receivingworldwide recognition.
It has been revealed that the model of the project was likely to bereplicated in the developing countries. Treatment of poor blood cancerpatients started by the health department has benefited more than 2,100people with 88 per cent survival rate at department of medical oncology atHayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar.
Prof Abid Jameel, head of the department, will make a presentation atOxford University, UK on the model adopted by the health department forfree treatment of cancer patients.
“There has been a heated debate throughout the world about the expensiveanti-cancer drugs, procedure and diagnosis. Research is being conducted tolook into ways and means to ensure treatment of the patients, who cannotafford high cost of medication,” Prof Abid said.
