Supreme Court orders NAB to stay within its legal boundaries

ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the National AccountabilityBureau (NAB) to stay within its legal boundaries while pursuing any case.

The two-member bench comprised of Justice Mushir Alam and Justice MunibAkhtar was hearing a plea at the SC’s Karachi registry filed by HumairAssociates.

During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel Advocate Ghulam ShabbirBaloch argued that NAB was harassing his client, Humair Associates. Heasked the court to bar NAB from taking action against his client.——————————

The court observed that no state department, including NAB, was allowed totake illegal measures to probe the case.

Justice Alam, however, remarked that the court will not restrict the bureaufrom taking legal actions.

The defense counsel apprised the bench that the NAB officials harassed hisclient on the phone, and threatened to arrest him without any call-upnotice, which was against the law.

“My client’s office was sealed without any notice,” he said, adding thatthe petitioner had also requested a plea bargain in one of the cases.——————————
