KARACHI – In an attempt to broaden the tax net, the Federal Board ofRevenue (FBR) has decided to include lavish hotels, food chains andrestaurants from Karachi in its tax list.
FBR has sent notices to more than 200 key restaurants and bakeries in themetropolis.——————————
In the 214 notices sent out to the owners of restaurants and bakeries, theRegional Tax Office (RTO-II) of Karachi demanded the details of their salesand income tax returns.
According to the sources familiar with the matter, the tax base unit ofRTO-II had earmarked hundreds of restaurants and bakers with massiveturnovers that were not paying taxes.——————————
