ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad Motor Way Police worked with the CustomsDepartment to unravel a plan to smuggle 6,000 smartphones. The CustomsDepartment on Thursday seized above 6,000 mobile phones of estimated worthRs. 8 million. Customs Department had received information about smuggledphones and a raid was planned in collaboration with Motorway Police.
National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) stopped two differentattempts to smuggle non-custom paid mobile phones.
Motorway Police spotted a suspicious car near Khanqa Dogran and uponsearching the car from inside, recovered 3,417 mobile phones from twoculprits.
In another incident at Ravi Toll Plaza, Motorway Police made anunsuccessful attempt to stop a suspicious vehicle but the driver stoppedthe car on the road and ran away. Police searched the car and recovered2,780 mobile phones.
A case was registered against the smugglers and investigations are underway.
