*ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has tasked senior federal ministersto mull over names for the appointments in the Election Commission ofPakistan (ECP) as two members are going to retire after three months,citing sources. *
The premier has given the task to Azam Swati, Ministry of ParliamentaryAffairs and the legal team to deliberate upon the names to recommend themas ECP members.
Two ECP members including Irshad Qaiser from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) andAltaf Ibrahim from Punjab will retire on July 25 after completing theirfive-year tenure.
A briefing was also given to PM Imran Khan regarding the retirement ofelection commission members. The government will decide on two persons whohad earlier performed duties as former judges of high court, retiredbureaucrats or technocrats.
PM Imran Khan will adopt the constitutional way for the appointment ofECP’s new members. It is expected that the premier will consult theopposition leader Shehbaz Sharif in this regards.
