BEIJING – Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang Wednesday saidChina would continue to engage in the discussion and review of the listingissue in a responsible and constructive manner and hoped it would beproperly resolved in the end.

“Regarding the listing issue, as I said earlier, China will continue toengage in the discussion and review of the relevant issue in a responsibleand constructive manner. We hope and believe it will be properly resolvedin the end,” he said during his routine briefing held here.

He informed that last Friday, members of the United Nations SecurityCouncil exchanged views on the draft resolution circulated by the UnitedStates (US).

“The majority of them agreed that the listing issue should be resolvedthrough dialogue and consultation under the 1267 Committee instead of bypushing for a vote on the draft resolution,” he added.

When asked to comment on a report that the US would utilize all availableresources to ensure listing of Masood Azhar, he said recently, China hadbeen working on all parties and achieved positive results. The US was awareof that. However, it still prompted the draft resolution to be adopted atthe Security Council, which made no sense at all.

“What the US did has set a bad precedent as it is not in line with theSecurity Council rules and customary practices. It will only complicatematters and will do no good to peace and stability in South Asia,” he added.

China, he said would continue to engage in the discussion and review of therelevant listing issue in a responsible and constructive manner. “We hopeit will be properly resolved in the end.”

When his attention was drawn towards the fact that so far no solid proofhad come out about the involvement of Masood Azhar in the Pulwama attack, the spokesperson said China had already made clear its attitude on theattack that recently took place in Indian occupied Kashmir.

“We hope to see peace and stability in South Asia and that India andPakistan will resolve the relevant issue through dialogue and consultation,he added.
