In a surprise, NAB closes yet another case against Saad Rafique

LAHORE – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to closeanother inquiry against former railways minister and Pakistan MuslimLeague-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique.

According to sources, the prosecution wing of the anti-graft watchdog hasrecommended closure of the inquiry after no substantial evidence was foundof the PML-N leader influencing the inquiry into Hafizabad train accident.

Earlier in January, the NAB Lahore recommended closure of an inquiryagainst Khawaja Saad Rafique into the purchase of locomotives for want ofevidence.

The anti-graft watchdog had initiated the investigation against the leaderof the opposition party on a complaint that he had procured the locomotiveson exorbitant rates when he was railways minister.

Saad Rafique and his brother Salman Rafique are also facing another NABreference pertaining to the Paragon City housing project.

NAB accused the Rafique brothers of establishing a housing project byacting as benamidars in the name of Air Avenue.
