QUETTA: (APP) Death toll of Gadani Ship Breaking Yard blast had risen to 19 as seven more victims succumbed to their injuries and one body was retrieved from sea, on Wednesday.
The police sources said that some of the injured succumbed to their burn wounds while one body was retrieved from sea as several laborers working on abandoned ship to dismantle it jumped into the sea in attempt to save their lives. "One body has been retrieved from sea on Wednesday," he said.
Commissioner Kalat Division, Hashim Galzai told journalists that still efforts were underway to extinguish fire. "Some quantity of oil was still present in fuel tank of the abandoned ship and it would take more hours to put out fire completely, he said.
Fire tenders of Pakistan Navy, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Gadani Ship Breaking Yard, Fire Brigade and local government were engaged in to extinguish fire.
Doctors said that 58 people suffering from burn injuries were brought at Civil Hospital Karachi from Gadani. "Condition of some injured was critical," they said, adding that all available medical care was being provided to injured.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Balochistan announced that a high-level committee has been set up to conduct probe into Gadani incident.
"Action will be taken against those found responsible for the incident," he said.
