MULTAN – PTI government has decided to contact the opposition parties PML-Nand PPP over support for the promised South Punjab province as it lacks thetwo third majority in both National and Punjab Assembly required for thenew province.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday said he will sooncontact the PML-N President and Opposition Leader Shahbaz Sharif and PPPChairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on South Punjab.
He said there were some legal restrictions and the matter required aconstitutional amendment.
“It is our desire and a part of our manifesto to make South Punjab aseparate province and give it a separate identity,” he said.
Talking about the Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat’s statement thatPakistan had to be a secular country to have better ties with India, hesaid Pakistan was an Islamic country and Gen Bipin’s remarks wereuncalled-for.
