Pakistan Army will play it s constitutional role if requested by government: DG ISPR

RAWALPINDI – Director General ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor has said thatthe judgment of the Supreme Court in Asia Bibi case is a legal matter anddragging Pakistan Army into it is regrettable.

Talking to the PTV this morning, he said that the government is currentlyengaged with the protestors and we want amicable and peaceful resolution ofthe current situation.

The Director General ISPR however made it clear that Pakistan Army willplay its constitutional role if requested by the government.

He said the matter should not be pushed to the level where the army isgiven the responsibility to tackle the situation.

Major General Asif Ghafoor said that those protesting should let the legalprocess complete in Asia Bibi case.

He said that Pakistan Army is currently engaged in the war on terror andit is close to winning it. We should not be distracted. He warned that ourenemies want to create anarchy and chaos in the country.

Asif Ghafoor said statements should not be given against Pakistan Armybesides rule of law be respected.

Asif Ghafoor said that Islam preaches peace, patience and tolerance and weshould follow these golden principles as well as abide by the law.

He said no compromise can be made on the sanctity of holy Prophet Muhammad(Peace Be Upon Him).
