In Rawalpindi, the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench issued a directiveon Monday for the authorities to produce former interior minister SheikhRashid Ahmed within one week.
Last week, the court had given Rawalpindi police a final opportunity tolocate the Awami Muslim League (AML) chief. The hearing today was presidedover by Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan, with Rashid’s counsel and Regional PoliceOfficer (RPO) Syed Khurram Ali in attendance.
The court rejected the police’s investigation report and ordered the RPO tolocate the PTI ally within one week, warning of potential legal actionagainst all involved officers.
The judge also requested affidavits from Rashid’s lawyers regarding hisarrest, with claims of video evidence showing his arrest and transfer to anintelligence office. Meanwhile, Rashid’s nephew Sheikh Shakir and employeeSheikh Imran, who were arrested alongside him, have been released.
The LHC had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the former interiorminister’s detention and had set a deadline for his recovery by October 2,threatening strict action if not met.
Justice Sadaqat had reprimanded the RPO for failing to locate thepolitician, who went missing after an incident where purported RawalpindiPolice personnel and plainclothes officials detained him at his home in aprivate housing society on the outskirts of Islamabad on September 17.
