COAS Gen Asim Munir s loud and clear message to security personnel

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has intensified its efforts against currency hoardersand smugglers, and the interim interior minister, Sarfraz Bugti, announcedon Monday that security personnel engaged in cross-border smuggling wouldbe subject to court-martial proceedings. As a result of this crackdown,Pakistani currency was recovered.

During a press conference held on Monday, the interim minister stated thatsmuggled items and currency were transported via trucks, not camels. Hementioned that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir had conveyedclear instructions to military personnel, emphasizing that anyone involvedin illegal cross-border trade would face consequences.

Bugti explained that Gen Asim had directed his personnel, and therepercussions would not be limited to court-martials; those engaged insmuggling and other illicit activities would also be liable forimprisonment.

He added that the accountability process within the armed forces is notdisclosed to the public. Furthermore, Bugti commented on the return offormer Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, describing it as a positive developmentfor the country’s political landscape.
