ISLAMABAD – Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan on Tuesdayinformed the National Assembly that the initial work on the Mohmand damwill be started on mid of April 2019.
The minister said this while responding to a calling attention notice movedbyMalik Anwar Taj regarding ‘non-inclusion of Mohmad dam in phase-I programmeaseven pre-qualification notices has not been invited’.
He said that Mohmand Dam project has immense importance, as it will store1.2 million acre feet of water for irrigating agriculture land andgenerating 800 megawatts ofenergy.
He said feasibility study has already been completed and evaluation of theproject hadbeen started.
He further said that the project, scheduled to be completed in 5 years and8 months afterstart of the construction work, will significantly contribute towardsdevelopment of agriculture, industrial, economic and social sectors in thecountry.
The minister said that biding for the project was invited in Number 2017,and about 25companies had showed interest in the project. However, he said thatcompanieshave been asked to submit their biding report February 2018, but companieshadmade a request to give more time for the biding report.
On the request of the companies, he said, the government had extended thebidingreport time June 26. The minister said that two companies had submitted thebiding report. – APP
