LHC to hear plea for missing anchor Imran Riaz

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has scheduled a hearing for September 6 toaddress the plea filed by anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan’s father, who hasbeen missing since his arrest on May 11. Chief Justice Muhammad AmeerBhatti will preside over this hearing, as indicated by the court’s causelist.

Imran Riaz Khan was apprehended at Sialkot airport on May 11, followingnationwide protests sparked by the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan. He,along with other journalists, was detained and subsequently moved toSialkot prison. An FIR was lodged on May 16, accusing “unidentifiedpersons” and police officials of kidnapping Riaz, under Section 365 of thePakistan Penal Code.

During the May 19 hearing, Imran Riaz Khan’s father, Muhammad Riaz,emotionally appealed for help in locating his son, whose whereaboutsremained unknown. On the following day, the LHC chief justice instructedthe police to recover and present the anchorperson by May 22.

On that date, the LHC instructed the ministries of interior and defense tofulfill their constitutional duties in locating the anchorperson, as PunjabInspector General Dr. Usman Anwar reported that no police department hadinformation about him. Subsequently, both the Inter-Services Intelligenceand the Military Intelligence denied having custody of the anchorperson. OnMay 26, the high court ordered all agencies to collaborate in finding ImranRiaz Khan and presenting him in court by May 30.
