A big diplomatic victory for Pakistan against India over Occupied Kashmir

BRUSSELS: A big diplomatic victory for Pakistan against India over OccupiedKashmir has been reported as the European Parliament’s Committee on ForeignAffairs (AFET) on Monday met over Occupied Kashmir.

Pakistan has been lobbying in the European capitals for the Kashmir cause.

AFET demanded that India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately liftthe New Delhi-sanctioned curfew in occupied Kashmir.

Expressing serious concern over the complete communication and mediablackout in the Muslim-majority Himalayan region, the European Parliamentstrongly criticised India and its members condemned the behaviour of Modi’sBharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration.

Members of the European Parliament demanded that India start a dialoguewith Pakistan right away and Modi immediately lift the curfew in Kashmir.

The members further said the European Union (EU) and the EuropeanParliament should issue a reactionary statement on the situation inoccupied Kashmir as soon as possible.

On August 31, it was reported that the European Parliament, resuming itssession after a six-week recess, would take on the issue of Kashmir in itsMonday session. Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Raja MuhammadFarooq Haider Khan was scheduled to be present at the European Parliamentto discuss the Kashmir issue.link link

It had requested the European External Action Service — the EU’s foreignministry — to submit a full report comprising violation of human rights andinternational law.

Separately, the Kashmir Council EU chairperson had said the lockdown inKashmir was a matter of concern since it had entered the fourth consecutiveweek.
