392 kilometer Sukkur Multan Motorway inauguration date announced

ISLAMABAD – The construction work on 392-kilometer Sukkur-Multan Motorwayhas been completed, and the mega project is expected to be opened fortransport this month. This was announced by the foreign ministry of Chinaearlier this week.

The spokesperson of the Chinese foreign ministry said that the work on thesix-lane highway started in September 2016 and it was scheduled to be readyby September 2019.

Hua Chunying said the work on the project continued for nearly three yearsand produced 29,000 jobs for the locals.——————————

She highlighted that the construction of Sukkur-Multan Motorway will play acritical role in the economic and social development of Pakistan.

Chunying maintained that the project is the biggest transportinfrastructure built under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Itwas completed two weeks before the scheduled time.——————————

The project, known as M5 in Pakistan, is a part of the country’sPeshawar-Karachi Motorway and was designed for speeds of up to 120 km. Thetotal cost of the mega project was around $2.89 billion.

According to a media agency, the motorway starts from Multan and passesthrough Jalalpur, Peerwala, Ahmed Pur East, Rahimyar Khan, Sadiqabad,Ubaro, Pano Aqil to end at Sukkur.
