In a first, Punjab Police and Intelligence Bureau ink counter terrorism accord

LAHORE – In order to eliminate terrorists in Punjab, a memorandum ofunderstanding (MoU) has been signed between the Punjab Police and theIntelligence Bureau (IB) here on Thursday.Punjab Inespector General of Police (IGP) Capt (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan andJoint Director IB Farooq Mazhar signed the MoU at a ceremony held here atthe Central Police Office.According to the memorandum, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) wing ofthe Punjab Police and the Intelligence Bureau would work together againstterrorist groups.Joint operation teams of the IB and the CTD Punjab would be constituted,which would operate at the level of SSP CTD and Deputy Director IB.Both departments would collect information about terrorist outfits andtheir activities. The CTD teams would conduct operations and to get theterrorists sentenced by the courts in the light of information gathered dueto mutual efforts of both departments.In this regard, an executive board would be carved out at the level ofAdditional IG CTD and joint director IB, which would monitor the progressof both departments. The IGP Punjab and Director General IB would examinethe actions and achievements of both departments against terrorists in theannual meetings.
