NEW DELHI – India’s Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Swami Prasad Mauryaslammed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Aligarh MP, Satish Gautam, forquestioning the Aligarh Muslim University for displaying a photograph ofMohammad Ali Jinnah in the institute.

The Times of India reported that calling Jinnah a ‘mahapurush’ meaning a’great leader’, Maurya stated that before Pakistan’s formation, Jinnahcontributed a great deal for India as well, and that it is a shame foranyone to point fingers at great leaders who have contributed towards theformation of the country.

In a letter written by Gautam to the AMU vice-chancellor Tariq Mansoor,Gautam had questioned the reason behind the placing Jinnah’s picture in theuniversity.

Gautam insisted that there was no point in putting Jinnah’s photo in theuniversity after the partition, and there was no valid justificationwhatsoever in having a picture of Pakistan’s founder inside the university.
