What did Pakistan FM tell his US counterpart?

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi informed his UScounterpart Mike Pompeo about Pakistan’s efforts for reducing tensions inthe region and handing over of a captured Indian pilot to New Delhi.

He further urged the United States to play its role in resumption ofPakistan-India dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his US counterpart Mike Pompeo onTuesday held a telephonic conversation during which the two figuresexchanged views on Afghan peace process and Islamabad’s facilitation inthat regard, according to the Foreign Office of Pakistan.

The two figures agreed on continuing cooperation with regard to the ongoingpeace process in Afghanistan, the Foreign Office said in a statement.

They also discussed the visit of US Special Representative for Afghanreconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad to Pakistan.

During the conversation, Qureshi informed Pompeo that intra-Afghan talkswere a key component of this reconciliation process, according to thestatement.

He also stressed the need for contacts between the Pakistani and USleadership.

Sources informed Geo News that Qureshi and his US counterpart also sharedviews on Pak-US bilateral relations and security situation of the region.

They said the two foreign ministers maintained that peace and stability inSouth Asia was linked to ending tensions.

Qureshi also apprised US secretary of state of Pakistan’s steps taken underthe National Action Plan (NAP), the Foreign Office said further.

He said Pak-US bilateral relations were of great significance for peace andstability in the region, adding that Washington’s role in ending tensionsin the region was praiseworthy.
