PSL is becoming dangerous for Pakistan Cricket: Former Captain

ISLAMABAD – *Pakistan former captain and opening batsman Aamir Sohail hasstated that Pakistan Super League (PSL) should not be use as a platform toselect players, as it carries huge risks for the country’s cricket.*

“It appears to me that the performances in PSL are being used to judge andtherefore select players for the Pakistan national team. Even one goodperformance at the PSL is being touted as reason enough to representPakistan which does not make sense,” said Sohail, quoted *PakPassion.net*.

The former skipper was of the view that PSL is a ‘good addition’ to thecountry’s domestic structure, but is shouldn’t be the only platform to getyou into Pakistan cricket.

“This kind of an attitude carries with it a huge peril. What we are sayingto the young and upcoming cricketers is that as long as you can hit a fewfours and sixes and be a slogger then you can play for Pakistan. As is weare suffering from a shortage of quality batmen and this approach willcertainly not help that cause.

On top of that, the representatives of the domestic cricket associationswho are the providers of the raw material for the PSL, are not even invitedto PSL which is incredible and not the way forward if we wish to improveour cricket,” Sohail added.

The country’s premier T20 tournament ended on March 25th, with IslamabadUnited claiming the PSL crown for second time, after beating Peshawar Zalmiin the finals at Karachi.
