ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday decided toconsult with President Arif Alvi and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa forelections in Punjab and KP.
As per details, the advisory meeting of ECP headed by the Chief ElectionCommissioner (CEC) concluded and it is decided to consult with the GovernorKhyber Pakhtunkhwa and President Arif Alvi.
Sources said that the ECP will write a letter to the president and governorKP within two days. The month of April is suitable for holding elections inboth provinces.
The ECP require Rs 30 billion for elections in Punjab and KhyberPakhtunkhwa, Rs 5 billion have been received so far while the commissionhas asked for further Rs 25 billion. The ECP also need 1 lac 17 thousandsecurity personnel for elections in both provinces, sources added.
The commission also considers to write a letter to Lahore High Court (LHC)again.
Earlier, the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan ordered the Election Commissionof Pakistan (ECP) to hold elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within90 days.
The Supreme Court (SC) announced a split verdict of 3-2 after thecompletion of the hearing on the suo moto notice on Tuesday.
