ISLAMABAD – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday has givenyet another blow to the former PM Nawaz Sharif.
NAB has submitted two distinct appeals at the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC);one against the acquittal of former premier Nawaz Sharif in the Flagshipreference and the other for increase in his sentence in the Al-Azizia SteelMills reference cases.
The anti-graft body has concluded in the appeal that since they had provedSharif’s corruption with substantial evidences, acquitting him on the basesof doubts was against the Constitution.
The appeal expresses reservations on the seven-year sentence given toSharif, and sustains that the sentence should have been given in accordancewith Section 9(a) (5) of the National Accountability Ordinance, hence theconvict must be imprisoned for 14 years.
Earlier, the court officials refused to accept both appeals because it werebeing filed late than official timings of the court.
