In Lahore, the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company has introduced a fresh policy for the coverage of health insurance cards, as reported by ARY News on Thursday. The company has declared a revised policy for the extent of coverage for government health insurance cards within the Punjab region.

Cardholders will now be responsible for 30% of the costs for surgeries related to hernia, appendicitis, gallstones, prostate, and obstetrics. This new policy will become effective from September 1.

In June 2022, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) had partnered with the health ministry for the Sehat Sahulat Programme, which involves using computerized national identity cards (CNICs) as health cards. The NADRA collaborated with the federal health ministry and the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company to establish the national health card and Sehat Sahulat Program. The signing ceremony for the agreement took place at the NADRA headquarters in Islamabad. Under the new system, eligible individuals will receive medical treatment at government and private hospitals for prescribed fees, utilizing their CNICs as health cards.

The agreement between NADRA and the health ministry will facilitate data verification processes, a central management information system, call center services, data hosting, and more.
