In the last 24 hours, Karachi has reported a concerning surge in dengue fever cases, with a total of 11 new cases, according to data from the Sindh health department as reported by ARY News. These cases are spread across the city, with the East district being the hardest hit, recording 6 infections, while District Central reported 4 cases. This sudden increase brings the total number of dengue patients in Sindh to 208 within the past day, and for the entire month, the tally has reached 948 cases.
Notably, this year has witnessed a significant uptick in dengue fever cases throughout Sindh, reaching a worrying total of 771 cases. The month of August saw a particularly sharp rise in the spread of this mosquito-borne disease, with 170 cases reported across the province. Meanwhile, in Punjab, a neighboring province, the situation is equally concerning, with 67 new dengue cases reported in a single day, signaling an alarming increase during the monsoon season. The provincial health secretary of Punjab, Ali Jan Khan, confirmed that a total of 1,042 cases have been reported in 36 districts so far this year, with Lahore alone accounting for 369 cases.
The healthcare system in Punjab is currently under pressure, as 61 dengue patients are receiving treatment in various hospitals across the province, with 36 of them in Lahore. To address this situation, the provincial authorities have allocated 2,678 beds in government hospitals specifically for dengue patients. As the battle against dengue continues in both Sindh and Punjab, authorities are working diligently to control the spread of the disease and provide adequate care to those affected.
