Pakistan Broadband subscriptions reach historic mark till August 31

ISLAMABAD (APP): The number of broadband subscriptions in the country has crossed 34.6 million as cellular service providers managed to attract more than 31.77 million subscribers to use their high-speed mobile broadband services till August 31.

The technologies such as DSL, EvDo, WiMax and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) remained stagnant as entire growth was driven by users joining the third-generation (3G) and 4G networks.

According to figures issued by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) here on Thursday, DSL connections stood at 1.42 million, HFC 43,167, WiMax 183,181, FTTH 25,665 and EvDo more than one million users.

The number of 3G and 4G users reached 31.77 million which witnessed increase of 69.02 percent as compared to 29.5 million till May 2016.

The data showed that China Mobile (Zong) has 6.5 million users of 3G and 0.6 million of 4G user registered till July.

Moblink, Telenor, Ufone, Warid have 10 million, 8.6 million, 5.3 million and 0.367 million respectively.

The number of mobile phone connections in the country also increased to 133 million at the end of July 2016.

The surpassing of 10 million 3G subscribers mark by Mobilink has enhanced an overall mobile broadband base in the country.

In the month of July 2016, Mobilink managed to add a total of 0.6 million 3G subscribers to its initial tally of 9.5 million.

The latest data ensures that Mobilink remains the market leader in terms of voice and 3G subscriber base.
