Pakistan want dignified return of Afghan refugees: CM Pervaiz Khattak

PESHAWAR (APP): Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak Friday said the governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan wanted dignified return of the refugees so that they could help rebuild their country.

The repatriation of Afghan refugees was a national and international issue and according to the UN charter, the federal government was responsible for implementation of the agreements on Afghan refugees.

In an interview to Chinese TV here, Pervez said the refugees were willingly going back to their country.

He said their registration in Pakistan had become inevitable as unregistered foreigners were creating problems.

The chief minister rejected political statements about forcible evacuation of the refugees from the country saying "We are hosting them for the last 38 years and will continue to do so."

Three years ago law and order situation was worst in the province as no one was secured outside his home.

Afghan Refugees Repatriation gaining momentum  

Now due to successful operation Zarb-e-Azb and efforts by police and border management, eighty percent improvement had been registered in the security related matters.

Even Pakistani citizens roaming without any identity card was considered as a suspicious person.

He was of the view that every country had its own rules and regulations for foreigners to avoid security problems.

He said federal capital was responsible for registration of refugees therefore, it was going to start registration process by October this year.

He proposed refugees to register themselves voluntarily and added they would be given their right accordingly.

Afghan refugees stay extended in Pakistan

He said security risk would reduce after repatriation of refugees which would help provincial government in maintaining public order.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would play its due role in facilitating refugees repatriation and provide all kind of assistance.

He said the Kyber Pakhtunkhwa government came to power, it was facing numerous problems such as terrorism, unregistered Afghans and their free movement which had been overcome to a great extent.
