LARKANA: (APP) Sindh Minister for Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Syed Sardar Shah has said that an International Seminar on World Heritage site of Mohen-jo-Daro would be held in February 2017.

This he said while presiding over a meeting of the Executive Board of National Fund for Mohen-jo-Daro convened at Mohen jo Daro (Larkana) on Friday evening.
The meeting was attended by the Sindh Secretary for Culture Ghulam Akbar Laghari, Coordinator of UNESCO Qazi Ayaz Mahesar, Ex-Ambassador Abdul Razzaque Soomro, Director Archeology Shakir Shah and others.

He said that to encourage the research environment and to get world attention towards this oldest archeological site, a Mohen-jo-Daro Research and Resource Center would be set up.
The Board meeting decided to hire international archeologists through UNESCO for the DryCore drilling project to ascertain the fundamentals of this historical site.
International Heritage & Museum Conference in Lahore
The Minister said that there was a dire need of preservation and protection of this historical site because it is our identity, and for this we have decided to invite the international archeologists with the help of UNESCO for the on-going study of DryCore drilling.
He told that the work of the Geological Department Sindh University is complete and now the remaining portion of archeological work would be performed by the UNESCO recommended international archeologists.
In the seminar, the international scholars from all over the world would be invited to present their research papers about Mohen-jo-Daro.
Pharwala Fort: Government negligence of national heritage
The Provincial Minister for Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Syed Sardar Shah said that it was only in 1973 that the then Prime Minister Pakistan Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had invited international scholars at the "Save Mohen jo Daro" international seminar, and after that no considerable work had been done on this historical site.
The matter of encroachment is pending in the Court, and the upcoming hearing is fixed on October 06, 2016, and all the orders from the Court will be implemented in letter and spirit, said the Secretary Culture Akbar Laghari.
Other decisions taken in the meeting were to recruit the tourist guide for the international tourists, to prepare a feasible plan for the solar light project for the Museum and rest house area, and purchasing vehicles for the officials.
The Minister Culture Syed Sardar Shah issued directives to prepare strategy for proper dress code for all the employees and officials working on heritage sites so that they can be identified for their profession and it will give them sense of honour.
Earlier, while visiting the site and inspecting the preservation work the minister directed the Curator to strictly prohibit any kind of trespass, and maintain proper protection of the site.
