SC issues notices to Sec. Interior, DG Passport, Immigration over Ayyan Ali ECL row

ISLAMABAD: (APP) The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notices to Secretary Interior, Director General (DG) Passport and DG Immigration and other respondents over over Ayyan Ali's Exit Control List (ECL) row.

The court remarked that unnecessary hype was created in Model Ayyan Ali's case.

The court also directed the Sindh High Court to decide pending case filed against re-inclusion of Ayyan Ali's name in the ECL in  two weeks.

The court also summoned Prosecutor General NAB and the investigation officer on the application filed by Custom Officer Ijaz Mahmood's wife to become party in the case. The court also directed the counsel for petitioner to submit additional documents in the case.

The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and comprising Justice Dost Muhammad and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood heard the two different petitions.

During the course of proceedings, Sardar Lateef Khosa counsel for Ayyan Ali told the court that SHC orders were violated for not allowing the model to travel abroad.

Additional Attorney General Rana Waqar told the court that if SHC orders were violated then the Supreme Court cannot hear contempt of court case.  He said that the government removed Ayyan Ali's name from ECL on court orders.

On a court's query, the Additional Attorney General said that Ayyan Ali's name was included in ECL on third time which was challenged.

The counsel for Ayyan Ali told the court that the widow of murdered custom officer levelled baseless allegations against his client.  He said Ayyan Ali was in jail when he was murdered.

The counsel for the window pleaded the court to not remove Ayyan Ali's name from ECL.

Later, hearing of the case was adjourned till July.
