Another Suicide Blast in Pakistan targeting Security Forces, Multiple Casualties Reported

ISLAMABAD: A brazen terrorist attack targeted the central camp of theFrontier Corps in Nokandi area of Chagai district, Balochistan, late Sundaynight, officials confirmed on Monday. The assault began around 8:30 pm whena group of heavily armed militants attempted to storm the fortifiedfacility, triggering a fierce gunbattle that lasted nearly two hours, BBChas reported.

According to senior police officials and local administration sources, fourattackers participated in the assault. One terrorist blew himself up at themain gate with a powerful explosive device, while the remaining three wereneutralised by security forces during the intense exchange of fire.Multiple smaller explosions were heard intermittently after the initialblast, believed to be grenades or suicide vests detonated by the militants.

Senior Superintendent of Police Chagai, Muhammad Sharif, told internationalmedia that security forces immediately responded to the attack and aclearance operation was still underway till early Monday morning. Heconfirmed the timing of the incident and stated that the situation wasbrought under control after prolonged firing.

An administration official in Nokandi, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the first massive explosion rocked the main entrance, followed by sustained heavy gunfire and at least seven to eight smallerblasts. The gunfire finally ceased around 10:30 pm. The official added thata larger number of attackers had approached the camp but all wereeliminated by the rapid response of Frontier Corps personnel.

No official statement regarding casualties among security forces has beenreleased so far, with authorities maintaining strict silence on lossessustained during the defence of the strategic installation. The FrontierCorps has historically borne the brunt of insurgent attacks inBalochistan’s border regions.

The Nokandi attack comes amid a surge in terrorist activities acrossBalochistan, where separatist groups have intensified operations againstmilitary and government installations. Security analysts view the use ofsuicide bombers as a dangerous escalation in the long-running insurgency.

Local residents reported hearing loud explosions and continuous gunfirethat created panic in the sparsely populated border town. Mobile andinternet services remained partially disrupted in the area as securityforces conducted search operations.

The incident once again exposes the persistent security challenges inBalochistan despite repeated claims by authorities of improved control overmilitant networks operating along the Afghan border.
