PTI government unveils sector wise strategy to create 10 million jobs

ISLAMABAD – PTI government has unveiled the country’s most ambitious jobcreation strategy to create 10 million jobs across five years, keeping inview the increase of 10 million labour force in Pakistan over five years.

The government has promised to ensure that all labour force entrants willbe gainfully employed, with their dignity and welfare.

The ministry of finance estimated that once the Naya Pakistan HousingScheme is fully implemented, the annual impact is likely to create over twomillion jobs, official documents revealed.

Similarly, through the green economy, the government expects that the 10billion tree project will result in nearly half a million jobs annually.

Similarly, the government was also focusing on strengthening tourism,agriculture, and IT sectors which could create extra millions of jobs overthe period.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has estimated that full implementation ofNational Financial Inclusion Strategy will result in one million jobs fromdigital financial services,

Two million jobs resulting from enhanced credit access to SMEs socialsector programmes – income enhancement through asset transfers (part of thesocial protection programme to be launched) will also create three millionmicro-entrepreneurs in five years.

The employment will be one of the two main metrics by which the governmentwill judge its economic performance.

Economic growth without job creation, a condition that has been experiencedin many parts of the world, is no good to the government and is no good tothe people of Pakistan.

To ensure that Pakistan’s work-force is employable, the government hasprioritised human capital development, and its plans in this regard (socialprotection, education, health, technical training) are discussed elsewherein this document and in their provincial equivalents.
