Former President Asif Ali Zardari lands in trouble

An accountability court in the federal capital, Islamabad, took action onWednesday, summoning former president Asif Ali Zardari and others inconnection with the Thatta Water Supply project. Accountability court judgeMuhammad Bashir presided over the proceedings and issued notices for theformer president and other individuals to appear before the Islamabadbureau on December 18.

Earlier in January, a different accountability court in the federal capitalhad sent back a corruption reference against former president and PPPco-chairman Asif Ali Zardari to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Accountability court Judge Rana Nasir Javed delivered the verdict afterconsidering arguments from both sides. The judge ruled that the corruptionreference did not fall under the jurisdiction of the accountability courtdue to amendments in the NAB laws.

It’s worth noting that the anti-graft body had implicated Asif Ali Zardari,Ejaz Ahmed Khan, and 12 other suspects in a supplementary filing related tothe Thatta water supply scam. Notably, Zardari was not initially nominatedin the interim reference, and the interim reference did not include AshfaqLeghari and Incharge Naudero House Nadeem Bhutto.
