ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and Uzbekistan have expressed the resolve to furtherenhance bilateral cooperation to promote peace and stability in the region.
This was expressed during a joint news conference by Foreign Minister ShahMehmood Qureshi and his Uzbek counterpart Abdulaziz Kamilov in Islamabadtoday.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said both countries share common views on Afghanistanas they feel that there is no military solution to the Afghan problem. Hesaid we are prepared to facilitate and support the dialogue process inAfghanistan.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said he has discussed with the Uzbek side rail-roadcorridor, which will enhance the connectivity in the region.
He said there are great opportunities to promote bilateral trade betweenthe two countries.
Abdulaziz Kamilov said Pakistan is a regional power, which can play centralrole in guaranteeing regional peace and stability. He said we have commonviews on regional security, especially peace and stability in Afghanistan.He said Uzbekistan gives immense importance bilateral cooperation betweenthe two countries in the realm of security.
Abdulaziz Kamilov said we discussed ways and means to enhance cooperationin trade, transport, communication, and other sectors. We also talked aboutstrengthening cooperation in the areas of tourism, people to peopleexchanges and cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries.
The Uzbek Foreign Minister invited Shah Mehmood Qureshi to visit Uzbekistanas soon as possible and thanked him for according warm hospitality to himand his delegation.
