Martyrdom day of Hazrat Umer Farooq being observed today

LAHORE – Muslims across the world are observing Yaum-e-Shahadat (the day ofmartyrdom) of Islam’s second caliph Hazart Umar Farooq (Radi Allahu ta’alaAnhu) today on 1st Moharram.

Umar (RA), the son of Al-Khattab, was born in 584- 589 CE. He was one ofthe most powerful and influential Muslim caliphs in history. He was asahabi (companion) of the holy prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He succeeded thefirst caliph of Islam Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radi Allahu ta’ala Anhu).

Hazart Umar (RA) belonged to the Adi family of Quraish tribe. In the 8thgeneration, his lineage joins with holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

It was Hazrat Umar under whose rule Islam became an international power andwithin ten years of his glorious rule, the whole of the Persian Empire,Syria, Palestine, Egypt and a part of Turkey came under the banner of Islamand the nations entered the fold of Islam.

Hazart Umar was one of the most just rulers in Islamic Historylink.All the citizens, including the Khalifa himself, were equal before law.
