KARACHI – Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan which is fighting the war ofits survival in Pakistan, faces the worst blow yet again.
A petition to open cases closed under the National ReconciliationOrdinance (NRO) in 2007 was filed in the Sindh High Court (SHC) againstMuttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
The cases against MQM leaders weren’t opened despite the orders of theSupreme Court that had declared the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO)null and void in 2009.
The petition was filed by Iqbal Kazmi stating that with the closure ofcases 8041 notorious MQM accused were benefitted.
The petition stated that the 31 murder, 11 kidnapping and 72 cases forviolation of Loud Speaker Act was closed against party’s London-basedfounder, while cases against ex-Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, MQM’s DrFarooq Sattar, Waseem Akhtar and others were also closed under the NRO.
The petitioner was of the view that the apex court had declared NRO nulland void in 2009 but the cases were opened against MQM leaders.
The petitioner also prayed the court to place MQM leaders including DrFarooq Sattar and Waseem Akhtar and others names on the Exit Control List(ECL).
