Pakistan’s consumer’s inflation(CPI)-based clocked in at 10.9 percent on ayear-on-year basis in May 2021 compared to an increase of 11.1 percent inthe previous month and 8.2 percent in May 2020, says the Pakistan Bureau ofStatistics (PBS).
According to the monthly review of price indices by the PBS, on amonth-on-month basis, the CPI increased by 0.1 percent in May 2021 comparedto an increase of 1 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.3percent in May 2020.
The National Consumer Price Index for May 2021 is increased by 0.10 percentover April 2021 and increased by 10.87 percent over the corresponding monthof the last year, i.e., May 2020.
A.A.H Soomro, Managing Director at Khadim Ali Shah Bukhari Securities whilecommenting on the inflation said,
Inflation today has become a non-event as it is not impacting the monetarypolicy decisions in the short run. Likely to remain elevated due to theglobal commodity cycle and supply-side disruptions.
The CPI inflation (Urban), increased by 10.8 percent on a year-on-yearbasis in May 2021 compared to an increase of 11 percent in the previousmonth and 7.3 percent in May 2020.
On a month-on-month basis, it increased by 0.2 percent in May 2021 comparedto an increase of 1.3 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.3percent in May 2020
