Famous German footballer Mesut Ozil slammed India’s persecution of Muslims

Renowned FIFA World Cup winning German player Mesut Ozil has slammedIndia’s treatment of muslims.

On Wednesday, the 33-year-old footballer took to his Twitter account toraise his voice against India’s persecution of muslims. The former RealMadrid and Arsenal star wrote: “Praying during the holy night of Lailatal-Qadr for the safety and well-being of our Muslim brothers and sisters inIndia. Let’s spread awareness to this shameful situation! What is happeningto the human rights in the so-called largest democracy in theworld?#BreakTheSilence.”

Mesut Ozil currently plays for Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce.

The mid-fielder has been vocal about the human rights violations in thepast too. In December 2019, he raised his voice against *China’s allegedpersecution of Uighurslink*witha poem he shared on his social media.

He was playing for Arsenal at that time, who publicly distanced itself fromthe player’s stance. Earlier this month, he had also tweeted to urgeeveryone to pray for world peace.
