US and Afghan Forces suffer heavy casualties in East Afghanistan operation

KABUL – Atleast one US soldier and several Afghan security personnel losttheir lives during the clashes with the militants in East of Afghanistan.

The NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in a statement said one U.S. servicemember was killed and another U.S. service member was wounded during acombat operation in eastern Afghanistan, April 30.

The statement further adds that in addition, several Afghan security forcemembers were killed or wounded.

“My thoughts and those of U.S. Forces-Afghanistan are with the families andfriends of our fallen and wounded service members,” said Gen. JohnNicholson, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan (USFOR-A) commander. “Their valiancy inbattle, and that of the brave Afghan partners they fought alongside, willendure in our hearts and history.”

The wounded service member, who is in stable condition, was taken to BagramAirfield’s hospital for treatment, the alliance added.

No further details were given regarding the exact location where the clashtook place but the Afghan and US forces are mostly in engaged incounter-terrorism operations in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistanagainst the ISIS and Taliban insurgents.

The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban militants havenot commented regarding the report so far.
