link>KABUL- At least twenty six militants were killed in an airstrike on a gatheringof the Taliban insurgents in southeastern Ghazni province, Khaama Press hasreported.

The local officials said Wednesday that the airstrike was carried out inthe vicinity of the restive Andar district.

Provincial governor’s spokesman Mohammad Arif Noori said the airstrike wascarried out late on Tuesday night as score of Taliban insurgents and localleaders had gathered in a meeting.

He said at least 26 insurgents have been killed and more than 20 othershave been wounded in the airstrike.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgentshave not commented regarding the report so far.

Ghazni is among the relatively volatile provinces in southeastern parts ofthe country which borders some of the restive provinces in the South.

The Taliban insurgents and militants belonging to the other insurgentgroups are actively operating in some of its districts and often carry outinsurgency activities.

The latest airstrike on Taliban gathering in Andar has been carried outamid ongoing counter-terrorism operations against the Taliban and otherinsurgent groups in the restive parts of the country.
